Promoting Patient-Centered, Multidisciplinary Cancer Care

Japan TeamOncology Program (J-TOP) is a program designed to advance multidisciplinary cancer care in Japan and Asia, and to empower patients to become central members of their own care team.

Programs

The Team Science Workshop: Cultivating the next generation of leaders in oncology through a multidisciplinary approach.

This signature program convenes oncology care professionals from Japan and across Asia for a unique, interprofessional educational experience. Guided by mentorship from a distinguished faculty from MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Hawai’i Cancer Center, and leading Japanese institutions, participants engage in a dynamic combination of didactic lectures and interactive small group discussions. The curriculum is designed to nurture the essential leadership skills and career pathways required to transform patient-centered cancer care through a team-based, multidisciplinary framework.

TeamOncology Seminar All Japan (“Tsunagaku”)

A workshop founded on the concept of connection, bringing together oncology care professionals from across Japan to transcend regional and professional boundaries and learn about team-based medical care together. Delivering the core principles of Team Science in Japanese, this program aims to empower each participant and cultivate the skills necessary to build their own ideal vision of team-based oncology in their respective workplaces.

Project ECHO ONE

The program is designed to enhance the skills of oncology professionals and foster a robust collaborative network. At the heart of the ECHO model is case-based learning; utilizing real-world clinical cases presented by community providers, we facilitate “all-teach, all-learn” discussions to ultimately improve healthcare outcomes for the entire community.

JME: Study Abroad Training Program

A selective international observership program at MD Anderson Cancer Center and University of Hawai’i Cancer Center, designed for promising oncology professionals. This program plays a pivotal role in cultivating the next generation of leaders in oncology by offering an invaluable opportunity to observe multidisciplinary team care firsthand in a real-world clinical setting.

EPOCH: Tutor Development Program

EPOCH is a premier online educational curriculum designed for J-TOP tutor candidates, built upon the dual pillars of fostering excellence in career development and mastering the art of team cultivation.

Collaborative Cancer Community Program

A project dedicated to forging stronger partnerships with companies and organizations beyond the healthcare sector, with the ultimate goal of providing truly comprehensive cancer care. Through these cross-sector collaborations, we aim to realize the vision of “Team C”—a core philosophy championed by J-TOP.

J-TOP Content & Communications Initiative

This is a content creation and dissemination initiative led by a dedicated group of J-TOP members. We produce and share a wide spectrum of content on team-based oncology, tailored for both patients and healthcare professionals.

Our Philosophy on “TeamOncology”

Every hospital has a team. However, the way a team is organized and communicates can make all the difference in a patient’s experience. I also feel that the practice of team medicine determines whether we can truly encourage patients to become partners in their own care.

By introducing the model of team oncology through our activities, I hope to foster the growth of team-based medical care across Japan and Asia.
